Sarah goes to Belfast | Part 2

Still on day two of my trip, I borrowed a hoodie so I could easily slipped on the hood when it rained while cycling. Part 2 will consist mostly Belfast attractions that Johnathan brought me to plus special thanks to Isaiah for lending me his bike.

Beautiful street of houses while heading to Isaiah's place in the late afternoon.

It looks better without me in the photo.

If you noticed from the photos in Part 1 of day 2, I had curled my hair but there was a sudden rain shower when I was on the way to Isaiah's place to meet him so there goes the curls all drenched with everything else I had on me.

Belfast City Hall
Bittles Bar

Victoria Square Shopping Center

Albert Memorial Clock
The Big Fish

Titanic Belfast in my hand (This was Johnathan's idea)

I can say this was one of my favourite days of my life. I felt so happy cycling through the city, cycling cross bridges, cycling pass strangers that smile back at you, cycling in the rain and also cycling as the sun set. Absolutely perfect day, we ended the night by making sushi for dinner and getting to know Winnie's housemates who were really interesting people.
Part 3 coming right up.

Sarah goes to Belfast | Part 1

Good evening, internet. I'm blogging this on a Friday evening, eating Country Crisp with crunchy Chunky Nuts and semi-skimmed milk while watching the second episode of Monk before going to the gym in an hour. Multitasking and details at its prime. Anyways, I just flew in from Belfast last night and I'm all well rested from sleeping in all morning and afternoon. So here I am blogging about my trip because I had an amazing time and can't keep it to myself.

Let's start with day one, I look pretty decent for someone who hasn't slept all night because I was feeling anxious about my flight and trip just tossing and turning throughout the night. Finally got out of bed after four in the morning and continued packing the rest of my luggage before my taxi arrived at five. I had to catch a flight at seven because it had the cheapest fare (easyJet, £49.98, to Belfast and back to Newcastle) and it gave me more time to explore the city.

Arrived safe and sound after a 55 minute flight and got into a taxi straight to my high school friend's place to leave my luggage there because I could only check in my hostel (Belfast International Youth Hostel, £13.50 per night for 4 female bedroom dorm) in the afternoon. If you're wondering why I'm not crashing at a friend's place for the trip ,well this was initially suppose to be my first solo trip, travelling and exploring alone but after making my bookings, I found out I had friends studying there through Facebook. Oh glorious Facebook. We then made plans to meet up and for them to bring me around which is so way better than doing it alone. First, I met up with Johnathan who gave me a light tour of The Queen's University of Belfast.

As you can see, the university is absolutely stunning from the photos but even more up front.

This is the view from Johnathan's place, I found it really lovely. Should I talk about the weather in Belfast? Well honestly, I loved it and wish I could have packed it in my bags to bring it over here. When it drizzled, it looked so light and beautiful in the Sun. When the wind blew, it was rather refreshing compared to the wind I've experienced in Newcastle. When it rained hard, the sight of the rain drops on the ground and the sound of cars going through puddles just makes me feel genuinely happy.

Winnie met up with us after she was done with class for lunch in Maggie Mays then Johnathan had to head to class after. They pretty much switched shifts on taking care of me and I appreciate it a lot that they did. The photo above is taken in the Botanic Gardens by the way, it was beautiful both inside and outside.

She took me on a university tour where I got to see the inside of the Queen's University Library and PEC, very impressive. We then relaxed on a bench in front of the Botanic Gardens before accompanying her to an appointment. I took a quick nap in the evening at Winnie's place, quick dinner at Johnathan's and checked in my hostel after that.

Day two came along where I visited the Ulster Museum with Johnathan.

Well, we tried. (to look like we were losing balance in a tilting room while the security guy was watching over us)

Lunch at John Henry's after the museum. I still have plenty more to share so I've split "Sarah goes to Belfast" into four parts, look forward to that and goodnight for now.

Would you like you, if you met you?

I am at the end of my first week of easter break, any university work done? Nope, none at all.
I did go to the gym and made sushi from scratch so that's something.

dream journal #14

20th July 2014

Chloe and I were living together in small apartment where I liked to think it was New York city. Our apartment looked really cozy with plants around, mostly wooden furnitures and surrounded by wooden floor. In that dream, I remember leaving the apartment building all dressed up in a beautiful mid length white dress and nude heels to go to an event in a hall not far off. We entered a rather fancy looking building with white walls and paintings hung everywhere. My father greeted us at the lobby and I gave him a big hug as usual. We entered the hall where the event was held, I still had no clue what type of event I was attending, probably a charity event or close to that. There was a photo booth there where I remember pulling funny faces in it.

After that, I remember rushing out where I met my little brother as he was waiting outside. He was walking me home when we saw tigers at the other end of the street. We quickly hid in a nearby alley and climbed up an old metal fire escape staircase. How did I do that in a dress and heels? I have no idea either. When we reached the top, I had the key to unlock the door but it broke in the lock. That's when I woke up so I guess we'll never know if we ever got to safety or where the tigers came from.

Germany details

Hello internet, I've been asked by a couple of friends who were curious about the expenses of my Germany trip and how it could had been so inexpensive and affordable. Well, I got to start somewhere to become a proper blogger so here goes. If I fail then I fail, if I don't then hurra. I was travelling in a group of seven for Berlin, a group of nine in Hamburg and a group of five in Munich. They were the same people along the way, not different groups for every city, that would be too tiresome for me. Anyways, the total of my whole nine days and eight nights trip was £198.83. This total only include the flights, buses and accommodation. My spending on food, souvenirs and other items are not included. I, however, did not take photos like proper bloggers do to go along with the details so you guys have to do a little googling. If it makes it any better, I included group photos I left out from my previous Germany post. Enjoy!

First of all, we started planning late October so that is one month and half before the initial trip. The flight from London to Berlin which took about two hours and a half was £45 with Norwegian airlines. Wombat's city hostel was our accommodation for four days and three nights, it was rather cozy with two bunk beds, great facilities and my favourite was the strong hot water that was extra soothing after a day of travelling. I even made a pillow fort to amuse myself. After splitting the cost, it was £32.10 per person.

After that, two hours and a half to Hamburg by bus was £7.03. Readers that suffer motion sickness easily as I do, I recommend getting motion sickness tablets from Boots or any pharmacy near you. It was not as bad as I thought it would be plus having friends around makes time pass really quickly or a quick nap can do too.

For our stay in Hamburg, it was at Meininger Hotel Hamburg City Center for three days, two nights. It came to an amount of £21.10 per person for five people in a spacious six beds room for that two nights. Friendly staff, lovely lobby and of course, a pretty decent shower with hot water.

I hope it has not been too boring of a post by now, Hamburg to Munich was hell of a ride because it was a total of ten hours in the bus. We travelled overnight so that saved us the expenses of a night in a hostel, two birds with one stone maybe? The rest of my group had the energy to strike a conversation with the people they were sitting next to during the ride if you like that sort of thing, you can do that. I, on the other hand, took my motion sickness tablets so I was out for the whole ride. I would like to add that it was a little hard to get comfortable so I must have been squirming like a worm to try to get into a comfortable position most of the time. I almost forgot, it was £28.10.

By the time we have arrived, it was early in the morning so we had to drop off our luggage at the hostel and do a little exploring before officially checking in. We only had a day to explore and one night stay in Meininger Hostel Müchen City Center so everything we did was on a fast pace except enjoying our sweet time in our last Christmas Market for our trip. That hostel was £14.30 per person for five people in a smaller six beds room, still cozy though. The flight back to London was £51.20 with Monarch airlines, they had us delayed with no reason at all or anyone to answer our questions for more than two hours so you guys can be the one to judge that.

Advice?
I do recommend to travel in fours or any even number so you can have the whole room to your group unless you like making travelling buddies then do otherwise. Buy travel bottle set in Poundland to fill up with your body wash, shampoo and conditioner so you don't need to get foreign shampoo that you can't read. Highly recommend that one or two of your travel companions are extremely good with the map because it would save a whole load of time. Try to booked accommodations that are close to the train station so you can move around the city at ease.

Any regrets?
Not preparing a pair of waterproof boots for rainy days which soaked my favourite trainers but I manage to borrow a pair from one of my friend so that saved me a day of wet trainers. Not having enough money to buy myself a Germany national football jersey. Not having more of freshly baked kürtöskalács in the market at Berlin which was no doubt clearly better than the one I had in Hamburg. Just little things but that did not make a dent to such a great trip. Overall, my biggest advice would be to just let loose when you're travelling. Don't worry what others think of you if you want to do a little dancing in public, remember to smile at strangers and respect the country you're travelling at. I hope this helped in any way if you're planning a trip to Germany. Till next time, look forward for more proper blogger type of posts instead of just my rants and complains, have a nice day, internet.

Lead, follow or get out of the way

I came across a graffiti sprayed across a small part of a wall saying, "Lead, follow or get out of the way". I loved it and decided to make it my go-to inspiration quote and throwing "Success is the best revenge -Kanye West" aside. Well heck, I don't even know if he said it with his own mouth or just people implying it that he did.
